Harihareshwar

Konkan is dotted with some beautiful destinations and among them one is Harihareshwar. Just 175 kms from Pune Harihareshwar is one of the finest places in Maharashtra. This small place is famous for a temple on the sea shore and calm beaches. It is considered as one of the holiest places in India. Harihareshwar is surrounded by four hills and river Savitri flows through the town. People often consider this place as the Kashi of Southern India. Devghar is another name of this beautiful place because it is said that the place is blessed by Lord Vishnu. Other than a pilgrimage centre Harihareshwar possesses two unspoiled beaches one to the north and other to the south of the temple.

Attractions
Harihareshwar Temple – It is one of the ancient and famous temple of Maharashtra. Lord Shiva is the main deity of the temple. There are idols of Brahma - Vishnu - Mahesh and Devi Parvati in one temple and other temples in the premise are of Shri Kalbhairav and Shri Yogeshwari. The architectural style of the temple is very attractive which has as much a sense of timelessness. It is difficult to pinpoint the exact date of the construction of the temple. Evidences suggest that its origin sometime during Shivaji's time, but it was reconstructed in or around 1723 by the first Peshwa. The atmosphere here are very gentle and creates pleasure.

Beach – The main attractions here lies in its beaches. It is often considered as a beach resort because of its two beautiful beaches. MTDC has a beautiful resort on the south beach is just what one dream about. There are lots of chaat stall and sundry amusement on the either side of the beaches. The beaches are an excellent place to relish sea food.

Near by attractions:

Bagmandala: Just a few miles away from Harihareshwar Bagmandala is a beautiful small village where Peshwa of the Maratha Kingdom lived for many years. This village carries the legacy of Peshawa in the Peshawa Smarak and also in the ancient Bankot fort. The main attraction of Bagmandala is the sea harbor or jungle jetty in the forest. The small port ferries the local people across the Bagmandala creek. This crossing is really exciting. There are provision for more long travel like one can cross over Bankot fort and enter the nearby Ratnagiri fort. People who who like Ferry travel really enjoy this ride.

Shriwardhan : Shrivardhan is just 25 kms from Haraharishwar is an excellent place for the beach lovers. With gentle winds, soft sands and inviting waters at 'Peshwa Smarak' Shriwardhan is simply alluring.

How to get there :

By Air: Nearest airport is Mumbai. It is 215 kms from airport.

By Rail : Nearest rail station is Mangaon, 65 kms. on Konkan Rly.

By road : It well connected via road from Mumbai and Pune. Mumbai-Harihareshwar, 230 kms. via Panvel-Mangaon-Goregaon Phata on Mumbai-Goa Highway.
