I have been living here in Kolkata since one year, and now its time to jot down about one of my favorite places. Since childhood I have likings for this ‘city of joy’. I always had a hidden wish to stay here for some time. Amidst its chaos and pollution I find a positive vibes blows through the city. It has traffic congestion, overpopulation, poverty and other logistic problems but it shocks and charms its visitors at the same time. I have heard people saying Kolkata is very dirty and congested. I would like to tell them that if you look for a clean and beautiful city then go to Delhi, and for rich and celebrity its Mumbai, for tech savvy then its Bengaluru but the city with the soul is Kolkata. Kolkata embraces and leaves its visitors with little bit of Kolkata in every body’s heart. It is a city where bygones and new coexist together with perfect rhythm. The influence of British Raj can be felt in every walk of the city. It is an amazing place where chaos and harmony rest together.

About the people 

What is very particular about the people of Kolkata is that they have an expert opinion about every thing. They discuss about any sports like they have conquered it. Be it sports, politics, economics, literature or cinema every thing is discussed over a cup of tea in all the addas. People in Kolkata take pride in being a bong (as Bengalis are lovingly called). They have emotions, they get provoked in small things, they love Rabindra sangeet and Saurav Ganguly and how can I forget they love food.

Places to explore

A part from the Howrah bridge, Victoria Memorial, Birla Planetarium and some more historical places, the place which lured me the most is the Princep Ghat. It is a beautiful place to spend a beautiful evening. The drowning sun with its crimson hues reflects aesthetically in the river Ganges and in the back drop the Vidya Sagar Setu gives an added beauty. This place is even been called the lovers paradise. There is hardly any empty place which is not occupied by the lovebirds.

 Another thing which I like about Kolkata is tram. I think tram is the perfect imagery for this city. The trams in the city and the city Kolkata itself runs in the same pace. The laid back attitude of Kolkata and the speed of the gliding tram compliment each other.

Kolkata is said to be one of the best place for the food lovers. In my one year of stay I have explored many new cuisines. When we talk about Kolkata cuisines, the first thing that pops up in our minds is fish. But the city is not only fish hub, you can indulge your taste bud with variety of platters. Chinese, Mughlai and continental are in high demand in Bengal. Restaurants of Kolkata equally serve Thai, Anglo Indian, Lebanese, Tibetian, Italian, North Indian and South Indian food. I will come up with a different blog post about the food of Kolkata. 

A city of contrast Kolkata has charm of tranquil peace of life unlike other metros. Oppressive weather, struggle  in the job market, be in queue for all most all the things are truly irritating but still Kolkata I love you, you never fail to impress your lovers.
