Lansdowne


A sudden turn on the Kotdwar-Pauri road brings you to Lansdowne, a beautiful hill stations in the Pauri Garhwal region of Uttarakhand. At a distance of about 45 kms from Kotdwar via Kotdwar Pauri road Lansdowne is a serene and unspoilt hill station on the secluded foothills of Himalaya. This place is a favourite weekend getaway of the Delhites. Set amidst lovely surroundings of lovely oak, silver fir,spruce, bamboo and pine forests Lansdowne is also the hot favourite among the nature lovers and romantics. It is said that, here nature can be seen in its best. The beauty of Lansdowne mesmerized many even British got attracted by the natural beauty and the climate of Lansdowne and set up a cantonment here.

Attractions:
Lansdowne is devoid of hustle and bustle of other hill stations. Surrounded by thick oak and blue pine it is a place appropriate to be with nature in its eternity. The lovely deep forests are ideal for long walk and picnic. Trekking and birdwatching are must do activities here. There are a number of vintage points like Snow View and Tiffin Top, which provide amazing mountain views of the Western Himalayas. The Tip-in-Top on the ridge close to St. Mary’s Church is an excellent spot to have a glorious view of the Himalaya. There are lots of temples and shrines, most of them devoted to the various forms of the Mother Goddess which are ideal places to visit.

Near by attractions:
Karnva Ashram, 14 kms from Lansdowne is a legendary place. It is believed that Shakuntala gave
birth to her son Bharat here, after whose name our country is called Bharat Varsh.

Tarkeshwar Mahadev temple is 30 km from Lansdowne is located at an altitude of 2092 m on the top
of a hillock. The attraction of the place is that even at this high altitude there are water pools.

Jwalpadev (52 km) is famous as a religious areas of the entire division on the Pauri-Kotdwar road. Devotees go there for pilgrimage during Ashtami.

How to reach there:
The nearest railhead for Lansdowne is Kotdwar (2 hours) and it is well connected by buses. Lansdowne is easily accessible by road from almost all the important cities of Uttaranchal. It is 228 km from Delhi and it takes 4 and half hours to reach there by road.
